On Theophanies; Godly and Divine Encounters
I don’t want you to chase after divine encounters or starve for them, but I want everyone to have the hunger and thirst for it, because it is in our true nature to experience that hunger and thirst and fulfill it.
Something is amiss if divine encounters are not happening, and we should ask what it is and why. It’s a privilege and honor to be blessed by them, and be worthy of them as a human being, and it’s the birthright of all humans as spiritual beings. What a pity it is to be human and not know oneself as a spiritual being, a divine creature.
A time will come when we shall realize a lifetime can be lived in moments, and moments could extend to lifetimes, for better and worse. And when we realize that, divine encounters could mean a learning curve of centuries or eons in a moment, not necessarily in terms of worldly skills, rather in terms of the care of the soul and the cultivation of virtue. It is then that humanity will realize the thirst and hunger for divine encounters.
Divine encounters are not in themselves the goal. They are sign posts, guides and guiding lights towards the ultimate, and they are the checks and balances that keep the separatist ego-identity in check, for us to know how near or far we are from that goal. Above all, divine encounters teach the greater virtues, one of which is to remain humbled.
Theophanies, as such, range from simple premonitions or intuitions, true dreams and visions, to the conception of great discoveries, telepathic connections, shared dreams, near death experiences (NDEs) or shared NDEs, to meetings with Godly beings, to apparitions and Angelic encounters that save lives—on earth and in our a heavenly and spiritual life—to the ultimate immersion in the the Divine Light of Self, to the absolute where there is no self, only that Source of Being. “Theo”—of God, is the caveat in this range of possibilities that makes a divine encounter truthful or one that is a half-truth or a truth mixed with human ego.
A true theophany leaves room for the taming, grooming, nurturing, training, and loving of the ego, thus the ego becomes subservient to it as a true and faithful companion, but ultimately even in the case of the most basic and simple divine encounter, the encounter itself has no ego involvement. The ego merely translates and reports, and at best shares in that joy and bliss, like a a great servant or aspirant (student). Sometimes even as the ego insists on its attachments and involvement, or as it kicks, tricks, screams, protests, or drags its feet, still there is no room for it. So, the ego could resist, and that is about all it can do, but it can not stop this process and mandate of one’s divinity, which is one’s true nature.
I pray I can play my small part in making the reality of this phenomenon known as it is, as it truly is, not as it is hijacked by the ego to serve its purposes of attention seeking, glamour, false power, entertainment, fame or whatever serves its own self-interests; rather as we truly are as little humble spiritual beings doing our part in every part, for indeed we are small before the vastness of the cosmos, even as we stand tall, sometimes even as a beacon of light with the right quotient of humility and pride in our divine encounters.
